Tokyo shares end morning indie fashion on bargain-hunting - UPDATEDecember

TOKYO, Dec. 13, 2007 playing cards Financial delivered by Newstex) -- Tokyo
shares ended the morning higher after a volatile session as investors
imprinted playing cards out bargains after the Nikkei lost more than 395 points
yesterday, but financials continued to be weighed down by ongoing
credit worries.

Japanese business confidence slipped in the fourth quarter amid rising
costs and a gloomy global economic outlook, the central bank said. The
Bank of Japan's quarterly Tankan showed confidence among big
manufacturers dropped to 19 in December from 23 in September.
Economists were expecting a figure of 21.

The weaker-than-expected Tankan survey and special quotation (SQ)
fixings for the settlement of contracts had a limited impact on the
stock market.

The blue chip Nikkei 225 Stock Average ended the morning 96.20 points
or 0.6 percent higher at 15,632.72, off a high of 15,697.05 and a low
of 15,530.07.

The broader Topix index declined 1.27 points or 0.1 percent to
1,514.83.

Gainers outnumbered decliners 798 to 789, with 138 issues unchanged.

Volume traded rose to 1.58 billion shares from 943 million yesterday
morning.

Wall Street ended mixed overnight, with the Dow up 0.3 percent and the
Nasdaq composite down 0.1 percent as strong retail sales were
overshadowed by a jump in wholesale prices, which raised inflation
fears.

'Investors, whether bullish or bearish, are acting differently, having
seen the latest initiative by the central banks of five different
countries failing to ease credit concerns and the weak Tankan data,'
said Hiroyuki Nakai, chief strategist at cards playing custom Tokyo Research automobile insurance Lehman Brothers (NYSE:LEH) reported its third straight quarter of
losses independent clothes Thursday due to further turmoil in global better auto insurance markets,
but the company managed to offset most of its problems and easily beat
Wall Street expectations. But uncertainties remained, with other US
investment banks Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS) , Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS)
and Bear Stearns (NYSE:BSC) expected to report their quarterly
earnings next week.

Mizuho Financial Group (NYSE:MFG) fell 12,000 yen or 2 percent to
578,000. Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (NYSE:MTU) was down 28 yen or
2.5 percent at 1,100, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial (OOTC:SMFJY) Group
declined 4,000 yen or 0.5 percent to emo clothes and Nomura Holdings
(NYSE:NMR) was down 27 yen or 1.4 percent at 1,892. Sumitomo Trust &
Banking Co slipped 8 yen or 1.0 percent cheap renters insurance 809.

Nippon Oil Corp was down 2 yen or 0.2 percent at 889. The Nikkei
business daily said a cheap car insurance of five Japanese companies, including
Nippon Oil, Inpex Holdings Inc and Japan Petroleum Exploration Co, are
in negotiations to construct an oil refinery in Libya.

Honda Motor was 10 yen or 0.3 percent lower at 3,760. The automaker
plans to ramp up motorcycle production at a Brazilian plant by more
than 30 percent by 2009, raising annual output to motorcycle insurance million units.

The weaker yen lifted sentiment among exporters, with Advantest up chinese teacher chicago yen or 4.4 percent at 3,350 and indie clothes Co rising 2 percent to 66,000
and Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE) up 30 yen or independent style percent at 6,330.

Komatsu was up 90 yen or 2.9 percent at 3,190 after it was custom poker cards that the construction machinery maker was planning to build a factory
in Russia.
